Question:

Please tell me about Jesus, I want to know who he is exactly, how He is the Son of God (Man) does, or did He re-incarnate like the rest of us? Or was His only incarnation as Jesus Christ? I’m confused, I understand most of Daskalos’ teachings from reading his books and from your website but this question still plagues me.

Thank you,

A Seeker of Truth

Dear Seeker:

The question is whether Joshua Emmanuel the Christ was a man created as all other men were or was the Divine Son of the Holy Trinity. Did he evolve or was he really "true God from true God" the only begotten Son of God (direct humanization of the Logos)?

This subject was the first of the doctrine disputes dividing the early Christians. The dispute lasted until the First Council of Nicaea (First Ecumenical Synod) in 325 AD. The Roman emperor Constantine requested bishops from every country to come to settle this question. The argument for Christ as a man is called Arianism after its main proponent Arius. Arius debated his view well and was swaying the 318 bishops who attended this council.

Debating against Arius for the divinity of Christ and the holy Trinity was a bishop named Spyridon from Cyprus. Spyridon was a self-educated, warm and compassionate man. However, his debating skills were no match for the more sophisticated Arius and he was losing the debate. To prove his position in this debate on the authenticity of the doctrine the blessed Trinity he showed a brick to his audience. He squeezed it in his hand and water steamed down onto the floor, fire sprang forth form his hand leaving earth in his palm. This and other demonstrations convinced the council and from that point on the Divinity of Joshua Emmanuel the Christ was accepted. With his faith and his holiness, Spyridon became famous as a miracle worker. There are many other miracles attributed to him, among them being the resurrection of a little girl. These acts lead to the Pope to consider him a Saint before his death. As Daskalos  has pointed out, some religious leaders of old were not just officiating dignitaries but spiritual adepts with real powers. ~ Daniel 2.22.01

From the Stoa Lessons Daskalos addresses this point of Christ as the perfect God and the perfect Man:

So, now, we human beings, male or female, are offsprings of God. I call us the Men-gods, not the Godman. The Godman was only one, Joshua Emmanuel the Christ who came to be humanized and incarnated - just to call us back. Why? Because, we are in Him and He is in us.

Now, the great ones amongst them who, I believe, have been sent on this mission by the Infinite Beingness to guide their brothers away from the darkness and the illusions in order to find themselves, have been coming on the planet, until - the Godman, directly from the Logos, came down to show us the way.

Now, Joshua the Christ came as the Godman - the Son of Man, but yet God. He was both. He never separated His human Self from the oneness of His Father, Allaha. He used to say, "I and the Father are one." He was in the everlasting now of God, feeling it, knowing it, being self-aware, saying, "Before this material earth had a shape, before the mountains and everything existed, I am" - in the eternal, everlasting now.

But who really understood what He was saying? Why didn’t they understand anything? Because the human beings at that time and today are always, out (through the five senses). You are all the time out in the gross material world, interested only in what you conceive through the five senses, and especially through the sight, through the eyes. They didn’t know much about clairvoyance, clairaudience, seeing the worlds of other dimensions, the psychical plane, the noetical plane, and so on. The human beings at that time were confined to the gross material world through their gross material eyes.

And today? Really, ninety percent of the people are living like that also. All the time you are living being out of your Self, in your material body, taking the presentations given to you through the sense of seeing into your material body, making representations out of them in yourself and in this way building up your petty selfhood, the Present-Day Personality. This is the shadow. You have to separate the way of your life, the way you are living from your Life, your being the Life, the Everlasting Life.

So, Joshua Emmanuel the Christ came and taught all that. Well, something was said about that by Buddha, by Confucius, and by others, but not as clearly. It was just a theory which most of the people could not understand. You can find all these truths in the Upanishads, in the holy books of the past, yes. But, who could believe what those Enlightened Ones said? Through introspection, you may find out that it was only Joshua Emmanuel the Christ, the Godman, who came not only to teach it and to confirm what these Wise Ones said, but also to prove it. Prove it in what way?

He could materialize and dematerialize His material body at will any time He wanted. He could expand His Self-consciousness (which is after all, our Self) not in one direction, or in one place only, but in many places showing that you (a human being) are not just a personality, just one step above the animals all around you. You can express your divine nature as Archangels and as gods.

He was living in that way, expressing the powers of the Soul and of the Spirit-Soul Ego - showing them. "If you don’t believe in what I tell you," He said to the Pharisees, "at least believe my works that I am doing. See them." He was raising the dead bodies of people, calling back their Souls into these bodies. He had done it on many occasions. At least three are stated in the Bible. Three occasions are mentioned in the Bible and He has done it on other occasions too. And as St John, Yohannan says, if all that Joshua had done on the material plane in those thirty-three years was to be written, you would need volumes to fill up the whole world.

That was a great honor for the human race for the [Christ] Logos to be humanized, to embrace us and call us back - back where? To the Kingdom of Heavens which is in our nature. He came to shake us up and to say, "You are not animals or wild beasts as the Lord of Darkness is making you. You are gods". Who said that before Him? Nobody. ~ DASKALOS

As a side note, Saint Spyridon passed over and was buried on the island of Cyprus. For more than 100 years after his passing, his tomb emanated sweet-scented fragrances. Finally the local clergy dug up his body to determine it source.  They were astounded to discover his body still intact after more than a hundred years. His holy remains were kept in Cyprus until the 7th century. Then it was moved to Constantinople until it fell to the Turkish in 1453. At that point, a priest carried Saint Spyridon’s body to the Greek island of Corfu in 1456 where it remains intact even today.

In Orthodox Christian countries, individuals traditionally celebrate their nameday instead of their birthday. All those named after Saint Spyridon celebrate their nameday on December 12th.

"At the first of the Synods you emerged as the champion,
and wonder-worker, our God-bearing Father Spyridon;
wherefore you addressed a dead woman (your daughter) in the grave, and a serpent you changed into gold.
And while chanting your sacred services, you had Angels concelebrating O most holy one.
Glory to Christ who glorified you, glory to him who crowned you, glory to the one who works through you, healings for everyone. (1st Tone)"
